Solvay

A new dynamic for an iconic site

The Solvay site in Neder-Over-Heembeek is a historic industrial location in the north of Brussels. The extensive site has played an important role for decades in research, development and industrial activities. Today, this place represents a unique opportunity to transform an existing and characterful environment into a forward-looking and sustainable destination.

The project

The site covers approximately 22 hectares and includes around 100,000 m² of existing office space, R&D laboratories and light industrial buildings. Revive aims to gradually breathe new life into the entire area and transform it into a dynamic innovation campus. Some buildings will be activated in the short term by attracting new users, while other parts of the site will be redeveloped over time.

In the further development of the project, particular attention will be given to sustainability and biodiversity, with the aim of creating a balance between economic activity and a high-quality green environment.

Location

The site is located in Neder-Over-Heembeek, in the north of Brussels. Thanks to its proximity to the Brussels Ring, Brussels Airport and the city centre, the location benefits from excellent accessibility. This makes the site particularly attractive for companies looking for a well-connected location within the Brussels region.

“We want to give this important historic site a sustainable transformation and bring together a wide range of partners around the project, creating a positive impulse for the neighbourhood and for the Brussels-Capital Region as a whole.”

Companies currently on the site

Even today, the site remains an important hub for research and innovation. Solvay retains its headquarters there and will continue to be present on the site in a modernised office building and existing laboratories. In addition, the British chemical company Ineos conducts research and development activities on the site. This presence of strong industrial and research players provides a valuable foundation for the further development of the site.

Collaborating on a sustainable transition.

Revive and Solvay will work closely over the coming months to complete the necessary steps together with Bruxelles-Environnement / Brussels Environment. The actual transfer of ownership will take place once the proposed remediation strategy has been approved, which is expected to occur during 2026.
